Frida Kahlo goes to kharadar
Eclectic, Fun, Bizzare, Quirky are all the words you would use when appreciating Deepak Perwani’s collection. An ode to the Frida Kahlo, the collection borrowed the styling from the iconic artist, the uni brow, the florals on the head, they did it all, and her mexican roots combining them with silhouettes for Pakistani Women. I must confess that I was quite worried about the idea of another designer picking up the theme (Sabyasachi being the one in recent past), and not fumble it.
With the black and white video of Kharadar, the colorful ‘Fridas’ of Deepak made for a delightful presentation. The myraid of silhouettes in the collection ranged from tunics, separates dresses, long tiered maxis, dresses, and jumpsuits. The colors included sharp hues of reds, purples, oranges, greens, yellows to blacks whites and neon accents. These were perfectly complimented by the digital prints that were developed for the collection.
Of the prints what I liked was that they perfectly complimented the silhouettes that they were made into. My picks you ask… first up had to be that sari. Loved It. The printed dress with a big Frida face across, the printed jumpsuit. Also all the digitally printed bags, with collages of Frida on them.
A befitting grand finale. Take a bow Deepak! You found your mojo back
