With the release of the movie THE GREAT GATSBY just around the corner, its no mean feat to take on Miss Prada (she’s styling Carey Mulligan in the movie). Taking on the one of my fav eras, THE JAZZ AGE, Maheen Kardar Ali, for her label Karma Pink, presented the finale collection on Day3 of PFDC Sunsilk. Fashion Week. Give it to Asma Mumtaz for her 20s styling which had the hair bob, the caps, the headbands and the makeup all done for a theatrical presentation.
Presenting 3 segments, black n white, colors and nudes, Karma pink’s collection presented all key silhouettes though contemporizing them. Flapper dresses, jumpsuits, bell bottoms, cropped pants, long length dresses and separates, Karma pink presented it all. Bringing the unadulterated glamour of the flapper girls and fusing it with modern context for luxury pret, Karma Pink, for me, succeeded in the black and white section while I Loved the hues of nudes and golds used. The embellishment mostly consisted of pearls and sequins. Using silks and chiffons, Maheen Karim put forth her best foot forward.
Though it was a good thing that she attempted to break it up with multitude shades of pink, purple, red, green and yellow tones, the segment however failed to impress much. The bling on it did not come across as very pretty and did not illicit much of an impressive response.
From the collection I loved the flapper dress that was worn by Cybil. Also the nude with silver houndstooth was a fun cheeky. Loved the neckpiece and the pearl strings across the black dress and those white palazzos were stitched impeccably and had me rooting for it.
On another note… Loved Maheen Kardar’s hair. The marcel waves channelled the perfect dose of oldworld Hollywood glamour.
