Fashion Pakistan Week 2017 – hits and misses

Posted on

Fashion scene in Pakistan needs a bit of a rejuvenation since the designers are producing a lot of same ol same ol. Designers need to understand that people are going to wear with what options they are presented with and thus need to reassess what their presentations are consisting of. Innovation, creativity and commerce all need to come together. While some made a splash at this season”s Fashion Pakistan Week 2017, some failed to do so.

For starters, I just fail to understand what will it take for designers to understand that winter festive does not necessarily means clothes for wedding or a bridals to be sent down the runway (you have a bridal fashion week for that). Yes, it is the upcoming ‘wedding season’ and people attending will want clothes but atleast give some worthwhile options… Festive does not have to mean you do the same old work in floral filgree over and over again – There quite a few that missed the ball altogether, others presenting rather meh collections and few managing to hit the right balance between wedding attendees and festive look. The collections that actually made themselves noticeable Read the rest of this entry »

One of the most underrated markets at these fashion weeks are the menswear, thankfully, we did manage to have quite a few shows during the fashion week but there have to more with regards to that,

DHRUV VAISH
Keeping it simple and clean, what stood out in Druv Vaish were his fun prints especially the multi color horizontal lines. Furthermore I loved the diagonal lines within looks with the cross over Read the rest of this entry »

Day 3 – MBFWA 16

The third day brought in quite a bit of color within the fashion week and the vibrant kind we associate with resort. From chic monochromes to girly patterns to some very cool conceptual and organic collections, Day 3 saw quite the variety and range of outfits on the runway…

MANNING CARTELL
The morning of third day, the harbour bridge and Opera House provided the perfect setting and time for Manning Cartell’s off site presentation. The designer opting for a cheery color palette for the resort collection presented a layered yet breezy collection that surely set the very relaxed chic mood for the collection. The same colored separates, jackets paired with slinky dresses Read the rest of this entry »

Fashion Pakistan Week 2016 – Picks

Posted on Updated on

I know I know I am late on this one, but better late than never right!! LIFE  does get in the way and did I mention, I graduated and officially a Masters (you probably know that if you follow me on instagram 😛 )

While not averse to the idea of two fashion weeks, a full fledged and succinct fashion week with 5 days for all designers over the country would make much more sense, but I will not get into the politics of fashion, all I’ll say is that it is the case over all the world so Pakistan fashion industry going through it is no anomaly. The Fashion Pakistan Week that took place in Karachi showcased a multitude of designers showcasing their collections. From them, here are my picks:

PSFW 2014 Day 3

head 3

While Day 3 is usually touted to be the best day of the fashion week, there were quite a few surprises in store for me as the collections walked down the ramp.  Some hits, some pleasant surprises and some misses, but it was a quite the satisfying day.

PSFW 2016 Day 1

day1

It is always an exciting time when fashion week and presentations happen back home. PFDC Sunsilk Fashion Week is one such occasion that is marked on my calendar weeks ahead and boy am I having a blast going through the collections. While I am not watching it live! time difference from back home and work commitments, I do miss out meeting colleagues, fellow bloggers and designers. It is always exciting to see what the designers have been working on and being a designer myself, it becomes second nature to see what is going on. Day 1 at the fashion week, like usual, came with its share of hits and misses

Raffles Fashion Show 2015

Posted on Updated on

A Graduate show is always an exciting time of the year to see the the upcoming new guns and fresh blood pour into industry. While I always have this debate with myself on the commercial prospects versus creativity and pushing boundaries of both within the garments. The students at Raffles showcased both qualities with some very interesting techniques and some very commercial RTW collections (no it’s not a bad thing, it keeps them in sync with what is going to sell). There were many pieces that caught my eye, ranging from Fierce sassy and edgy ensembles to the demure dauphines and fun seperates, it was indeed an interesting showcase. It was also fun to see experimentation with menswear, especially how it was done. The standouts had to be Tiana Mikelecic, Lenka Klikacova, wilson Nguyen,Rhenny Valleria and Edwin Limanto and a few others.
