Oscars 2015 – Red Carpet

Posted on Updated on

It was rather surprisingly a lackluster affair at the Oscars this year. Women dressed way better at the Globes. While Jessica Chastain went a good jewel tone but the sad sash with embellished bodice maternity look and her fiery hair into tamed into straight school girl gone stepford housewife hair, What happened to you between Globes and Oscars??? Attempting a miss goody two shoes look???  Best Actress winner Julianne Moore disappointed in something that ‘Karl made for her’…. Woman … you should have stuck to Givenchy or Tom Ford… they gave you such memorable moments at Globes and SAG… the squashed sequined flowers rows was rather meh!! Almost the worst gown ever by a best actress winner….Even Cate Blanchette was just hanging around the outskirts looking bored and barely bringing in her red carpet game.

Jared Leto’s outfit was copied by the Lego singers and it wasn’t as awesome on them. Scarlet Johansson and Lupita Nyongo were in competition with each other for the role of the new sea witch… someone might as well cast them as two bad ass sea witches fighting off each other…who needs Ariel, its Sea Poison Ivy versus the Oyster Queen of Pearls (Lupita’s Vanity Fair Party Calvin Klein look was flawless) . Laura Dern‘s gown as much fun as it was, she did not need to ruin the whole look by that styling going all Game of Thrones and making it go all armoury.. Felicity Jones, almost had a moment…her Globes one still by far the best look for her this award season. Zoe Saldana, a little personality wouldn’t hurt, you had such a good gown with subtle graphic details. And what to say about Gwenyth Paltrow… why is she even invited to Oscars anymore… Darling they don’t hand out awards to trying-to-look-like-when-i- won.

Here are my picks for the best dressed women of the night.

JENNIFER HUDSON
After Naomi Watts at Globes, it was Jennifer Hudson’s turn to try on the cheery yellow color on the red carpet. The butter yellow gown from the Romona Keveza Spring 2015 collection with half peplum and tiny accent belt was classic chic, while the color adds a splash of fun to the simple silhouette. The bold emerald and diamond earrings and cocktail ring are a lovely accent, perfectly styling off the gown. Paired with Jimmy Choo ‘Minnie’ sandals she rounded off the look. Jennifer’s sleek hair, flawless skin and subtle makeup complete the look. She changed up with another smashing look with a black velvet gown, dangling earrings and deep magenta lips was as perfect for the night as the red carpet look. From cheery to sultry, this chic rocked it all.

JENNIFER LOPEZ
The usual sultry siren on the red carpet went for a much more prettier and princessy moment for her big night at the Oscars. The Layers of romantic nude-hued tulle were speckled with monochromatic beading from the deep cut neckline, dripping all the way past the waistline. The look was styled to chicest perfection via the most slim belt, a matching clutch by Salvatore Ferragamo and simple diamond drop earrings. What was a masterstroke was the high ponytail that added the perfect contrasting playful element, balancing out the high drama dress. A pink pout and she was the princess of the night.

EMMA STONE
After Jessica Chastain’s unusual bronze choice at the Globes, it was Emma’s chartreuse pick made for the unusual perfect red carpet moment this Oscar season. The custom long-sleeved Elie Saab couture gown with illusion detailing, an open-back and chartreuse beading worked perfectly for the her skin tone accented off with her hair. Christian Louboutin ‘Gardnera’ sandals compliment the gown perfectly. The flawless look was finished with her wavy side swept bob and deeply pigmented coral matte lips were perfect accent and fun take on the red carpet.

ROSAMUND PIKE
If there was one dress that said ‘ delivered a baby and the bitch is back baby’, it had to be Rosamund’s Oscar red carpet moment.  The crimson Givenchy Couture number created a visual spark on the red carpet with its dimensional, intricate embroidery sexily cinched in with a visible corset. What is intriguing about this look is its in sync with her nominated character as well as despite being embroidered overall, it does not overwhelm her. Finishing her sassy red carpet look, in minimal fashion—dainty Lorraine Schwartz earrings, alongside a swept-back bun and barely-there rose-tinged makeup were all she needed.

MARGOT ROBBIE
Chanelling her inner sultry boudoir, starlet Margot Robbie looked smoldering in Saint Laurent on the red carpet. Saint Laurent is becoming the go to designer for the young guns providing edgy elegant outlook. The subtly sexy Saint Laurent gown with a plunging neckline and sheer sleeves channeled her 70’s glam actress look. The Van Cleef & Arpels necklace featuring rows of diamonds, sapphires and a dramatic tassel was a perfect accent to the black draped gown. Styling the look to a T, flawless skin, a matte red lip, gorgeous brows and a slick blonde bob made her one of the best dressed ones.

NAOMI WATTS
Naomi Watts is one actress who is always noted for her sartorial choices on the red carpet. Decked in Armani Prive, the black, white and grey brick like embellished brick pattern was fresh in Naomi-esque manner. With halter neckline that had delicate straps and the black, beaded cutout along the sides of the gown was a modern and chic take on the cutout trend. Styling with oversized inky-blue and diamond drop earrings and a black Rauwolf clutch. Soft waves and a deep berry lip topped off the vampy look to perfection.

ANNA KENDRICK
The fierce Anna Kendrick wore a custom Thakoon coral gown with a keyhole accent and diamond collar. The color and drape of the gown offered an elegant look. The blush of her cheeks and lips are the perfect with her gown, and the slightly smokey eyes are a dream compliment. The hair is twisted classic updo with a slight swept. Diamond earrings and a cocktail ring continued the classic glamour theme.

SPECIAL MENTION: LADY GAGA

Lady gaga might have looked her usual self on the red carpet, it was her performance look that won me over. What I always love about GAGA is she looks her best when she is at her neutral best and this was THE look. With a white gown, grey hair and neutral look, this was probably her best look for me. It’s natural, fresh and she CAN sing.

Golden Globes 2015 – Red Carpet

Posted on Updated on

While this time around Globes was a lackluster affair with not enough Tina Fey and Amy Poehler in their last year of hosting, there were some fun surprises and the red carpet veterans bringing out their A game on the red carpet.

JENNIFER LOPEZ
The one always dressed to the nines, J.Lo turned up in a sheer metallic Zuhair Murad cape Kaftan number making sure all eyes were on her. The Latina beauty broke the rules of not to do decollete and legs together and yet look smoking hot on the red carpet. The plunging bold number was right up the diva’s alley staying true to her glam. She accessorized with a coordinating clutch, platinum Stuart Weitzman sandals and mega danglers. Her hair had the perfect amount of volume with her bombshell waves styled to perfection and on point smoky eye makeup made her for one sizzling red carpet DIVA.

JESSICA CHASTAIN
Does this woman ever have a misstep on the red carpet? While the plunging pleated and draped silhouette was nothing new, it was Chastain who breathed life and how she wore the liquid Versace bronze number to perfection. Unusual, unpredictable and definitely delectable, the bronze played a perfect contrast against her red locks which were styled as an ode to old Hollywood glamour.  Whoever knew this color could be pulled off at the red carpet and with that much perfection. With dangling diamonds and a silver cuff watch was all she needed to finish off this smashing outing on the red carpet.

EMMA STONE
Trust Miss Stone to stir things up at the red carpet. The one to ditch the gown and going the pantsuit route, the BIG EYES painting on display (you need to see the award show to understand that joke), just killed it in that Lanvin number. Birdman’ star and Best Supporting Actress nominee’s ensemble was one of the unexpected looks of the night. With a heavily bejeweled bodice, tailored pants and complete with a statement bow and train in the back—the perfect fusion of feminine and masculine styling. Keeping her jewellery to minimum with midi rings, she styled her her flame-red, wavy bob and magenta lip color.

KATE HUDSON
Defining fierce in every way possible, Kate hudson’s Atelier Versace gown was the perfect balance between red carpet and vampy. The undeniably sexy gown with the cutouts and sparkle stripes was a risque but gives the gown an enviable silhouette which the gurl works the damn hell out of. Leaving just enough to imagination, the plunging number with a killer bod as Hudson’s was one of the best of the night. She finished off the look with a twisted bun, Forevermark simple drop earring and sleek clutch. No fuss or drama! this bitch owned the red carpet like nobody’s business.

KATE BECKINSALE
The second Kate of the night who was a vision in a nude grey was Kate Beckinsale in her Elie Saab number. With a cross between a grecian dress (complete with that flawless updo) and sequined number, the british actress looked radiant in the gown. She added drama with her Salvatore Ferragamo heels and Bulgari jewels, the chandelier chain earrings and a diamond bracelet. A cute box clutch finished things off. It was however her lip color that was just chic. Her nude pink pout was the perfect choice to top the look off (a break from the oxbloods..phew!). Effortlessly chic.

REESE WITHERSPOON
A sighting after quite a while at the awards season, Reese Witherspoon was back in a silver number and how. The glitzy column number from Calvin Klein collection fit her like a dream with her locks in a side swept fashion. The Wild actress was bang on with the metallic trend of the night in this sleek look that was polished and meant business. Finishing off with her simple makeup, dainty earrings and one simple cuff, she cut a sophisticated picture.

GINA RODRIGUEZ
The shocking winner of the night, the Jane of television, Gina Rodriguez took more than the top honors at the globes. The actress was a perfect minimal vision in black gown with fringe details at the bottom. The strapless Badgely Mishka number highlighted the actress’s curves in the best possible silhouette making her look comfortable on the red carpet. With her hair in soft waves and white Chopard drop earrings, Miss Rodriguez aced it at her debut globe outing and hit all the right notes. Simple and classic with just enough twist.

THE MEN

EDDIE REDMAYNE
The Best Actor Nominee and Winner of the night, Eddie Redmayne cut his honeymoon short to turn up on the red carpet. Sort of a regular on my lists whenever he makes an appearance, the charming actor turned up as in a black gucci suit with a velvet jacket. At a black tie event, velvet usually gives me the creeps and ‘errr…’ moments since it is not everyone’s cup of tea to pull it off. However Mr. Redmayne had no such problems. Trudging along effortlessly, the british actor looked dapper and chic as usual with a pinstripe detailing down the side of his pants. Opting for a bowtie and patent leather shoes, he paired his suit with a crisp white shirt and a white pocket square. Definitely knows how to exercise control .

LAWRENCE ZARIAN
When fashion guru like Lawrence Zarian is set to take the red carpet, you anticipate and sit up to take notice of what he is going to turn up in. Playing off the dapper geek card, Mr Zarian turned up in a vintage deep purple tux. Letting the color do all the talking, the guy kept the rest of the look simple with a crisp white hugo boss shirt, John Varvatos boots and slim tie in a trinity knot (yes it wasn’t just regular old knot) . Adding the quirk with his nerdy Sama Eyewear specs, he had a slight stubble that added the right amount of debonair air to the whole look.

MATT BOMER
The guy looks photoshopped even on red carpet…lol.. The actor ringing in the award for his best supporting actor gong for The Normal Heart, was sleek and pretty much blew the competition in how to look polished on red carpet. Appearing in Ralph Lauren Black Label, the actor in the blue suit with a charcoal collar stood out for his choice of color and his slick styling. The shawl collar suit is not always easy to pull off since it is considered the most casual in the suit family, but credit to Mr. Bomer for pulling it off how he did. Slick side parted hair, a matching bowtie and a thin reveal of the pocket square, coupled with black shoes rounded off his look. Gentlemen!! that is how you do it.

DOMINIC WEST
One of my favorite actors this season, he was definitely the one I was rooting for this award season. Dominic West who was nominated for his AFFAIR (yea he was!! :P) turned up pretty polished on the red carpet in a classic tux and bowtie. What has always been interesting is how he manages to keep his wavy hair side parted with a certain flick for a formal look. With the slight triangle to his pocket square (it is really in the details for men at an event like this!!) and his gold cufflinks, the man did manage to clean up .. and clean up well.

GEORGE CLOONEY
Come on! lets face it… he looks good in everything.. even when he wears his wedding Armani tux to the globes. Ladies!! you may want him but Amal has him 😛 Keep Drooling!!
