PFDC SUNSILK FASHION WEEK 2017

Posted on Updated on

The second fashion week of the season, The fashion week from Lahore had quite a few interesting collection that did explore the fun and business sides of fashion. The collections both by debutantes and established designers definitely had people sit up and take notice how pret is evolving within fashion. While there were a few that stuck to the formulaic commercialism, others did dare to venture out, pushing the envelope and making a damn point.

For starters, I just fail to understand what will it take for designers to understand that winter festive does not necessarily means clothes for wedding or a bridals to be sent down the runway (you have a bridal fashion week for that). Yes, it is the upcoming ‘wedding season’ and people attending will want clothes but atleast give some worthwhile options… Festive does not have to mean you do the same old work in floral filgree over and over again – There quite a few that missed the ball altogether, others presenting rather meh collections and few managing to hit the right balance between wedding attendees and festive look. The collections that actually made themselves noticeable Read the rest of this entry »

Day 2 – MBFW 16

Posted on Updated on

The second day did manage to hit quite the mark on the resort vibe with something that we are familiar of the season. Relaxed outings to some body con dresses ending with Dion Lee’s impressive presentation. From important business decisions to commercial concepts to evolutions, Day 2 was pretty interesting and safe at the same time to say the least…

Fashion Pakistan Week 2016 – Picks

Posted on Updated on

I know I know I am late on this one, but better late than never right!! LIFE  does get in the way and did I mention, I graduated and officially a Masters (you probably know that if you follow me on instagram 😛 )

While not averse to the idea of two fashion weeks, a full fledged and succinct fashion week with 5 days for all designers over the country would make much more sense, but I will not get into the politics of fashion, all I’ll say is that it is the case over all the world so Pakistan fashion industry going through it is no anomaly. The Fashion Pakistan Week that took place in Karachi showcased a multitude of designers showcasing their collections. From them, here are my picks:

Raffles Fashion Show 2015

Posted on Updated on

A Graduate show is always an exciting time of the year to see the the upcoming new guns and fresh blood pour into industry. While I always have this debate with myself on the commercial prospects versus creativity and pushing boundaries of both within the garments. The students at Raffles showcased both qualities with some very interesting techniques and some very commercial RTW collections (no it’s not a bad thing, it keeps them in sync with what is going to sell). There were many pieces that caught my eye, ranging from Fierce sassy and edgy ensembles to the demure dauphines and fun seperates, it was indeed an interesting showcase. It was also fun to see experimentation with menswear, especially how it was done. The standouts had to be Tiana Mikelecic, Lenka Klikacova, wilson Nguyen,Rhenny Valleria and Edwin Limanto and a few others.

British Fashion Awards 2015 – Red Carpet

bfa_2010

For a fashion awards night it was ironic as to how many usually-well-turned-up-on-red-carpet people, had quite the opposite effect. Many turned heads on the red carpet and not for the right reasons failing to impress anyone that saw them, and here I thought Black was the most safest color. From capes on dresses to odd ( and not the good kind) dresses and gowns it was pretty much a catastrophe. While the British Fashion Awards 2015 in partnership with Swarovski did miss last year’s sass, however not everyone was a lost cause and some of the red carpet appearances did kick some serious ass!! My highlight of the night:  Jonathan Anderson winning both Menswear and Womenswear designer for 2015.

When a luxury pret and a customized clothing designer forays into a pret wear all eyes are on him how he would translate his aesthetic within the affordability without compromising the quality. Luckily for us, Zaheer Abbas’s attention to detail and penchant for perfection puts all those fears to rest. While he has experienced designing lawn by collaborating with a textile mill, one that died down without creating much impact…this one however hits much closer to designer’s aesthetic and notions of what something that comes out of his design house should be like.
